Methodist Collaboration

3D Stereoscopic Visualization for Aneurysm Research

Project Summary

Methodist Hospital and Amerra have come together to develop a first of its kind stereoscopic aneurysm library.  Using CT scans from patients, Amerra is able to import the aneurysm data into advanced 3D software where bloodflow can be added, then exported to be compatible with 3D stereoscopic monitors and eyewear.

Stereoscopic visualization is based on composite images that contain both left and right eye information on a line-by-line basis.  Through the use of  eyewear (in most cases), this data is interpreted by the brain as having depth beyond the physical display plane and creates a sense of immersion within the scene.

Potential Applications

Stereoscopic visualization can be developed and utilized for:

  • Medical Schools - Enhanced Learning Method for Students
  • Hospitals - Presurgical Planning and Training
  • Corporate - Investor and Tradeshow Demonstrations
